GitMCP
Free, open-source remote MCP server that turns any public GitHub repo or GitHub Pages site into a docs/code source for agents, no install or signup.

Description
Point an MCP client at https://gitmcp.io/{owner}/{repo} (or https://{owner}.gitmcp.io/{repo} for GitHub Pages) to give an agent that project's documentation (it prioritizes llms.txt, then falls back to README.md and other pages) and code search, or use the generic https://gitmcp.io/docs endpoint to let the agent pick the repository per request. Runs in the cloud, states it doesn't store queries or collect personal information, and can be self-hosted. Verified 2026-10-23: the /docs endpoint answers MCP initialize over Streamable HTTP (server GitMCP 1.1.0). Repo activity has slowed (last push May 2026) but the hosted service is up.

Guides & comparisons
- Give your coding agent up-to-date library docs over MCP (Context7, GitMCP, DeepWiki, Microsoft Learn) (Guide): Stop your coding agent from guessing at APIs that changed after its training cutoff. Connect free remote docs MCP servers (Context7, GitMCP, DeepWiki, Microsoft Learn) to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, learn which tool to call for what, and keep a self-hosted fallback for private docs.
